Weatherization

Weatherization serves to conserve energy and reduce utility bills for homes of people on limited incomes. Weatherization is a statewide program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Human Services. All applications are reviewed for complete, accurate information and must meet the income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Mountain CAP of WV, Inc., a CDC contracts with the West Virginia Office of Economic Opportunity to manage this program in four counties: Braxton, Lewis, Upshur, and Webster. The materials and labor are free to qualifying families. The work is performed in accordance with priorities mandated by the Department of Energy.

 Weatherization Goals:

  • Reduce heating and cooling costs by improving the energy efficiency of homes while ensuring the health and safety of families in Braxton, Lewis, Upshur, and Webster Counties.
  • Crews perform energy conservation measures on the homes.
  • Because of the need for this program, there is currently a waiting list.
