Mountain CAP's goal is to help families keep safe and affordable housing so they may accomplish success in other aspects of their lives such as employment, childcare, education, etc. Our Rental Housing Program works with HUD and West Virginia Housing Development Fund to provide safe, affordable, equal opportunity housing to low income families in the areas we serve.
Currently the Rental Housing Program has complexes in Barbour, Greenbrier, Harrison, Lewis, Raleigh, Upshur and Webster counties. Based on income guidelines and eligibility, tenants may qualify for a subsidy which helps a family with little or no income to obtain and maintain housing. Families submit applications for the rental housing of their choice and eligibility is based on their income levels, criminal backgrounds, credit, and references.
Once approved for rental housing, if a unit is not available, clients are placed on a waiting list until a unit becomes available. Clients considered extremely low income are given priority on the waiting list. We require that at least 40% of our units be extremely low income at the time of move-in.
All interested individuals are encouraged to complete a Rental Application, found below, and return it to the Rental Program.
